The girl behind the blog

Hello and a big WELCOME to the 13 Under blog!! I’m June Song and I will be writing regular blogs on everything and anything golf! I am so excited to share some funny stories, pieces of advice and a sneak peek of my golfing journey with you all.

I wanted to start off my first blog with an introduction to who I am, and how I came to start writing this blog.

I am a 20-year-old female amateur golfer from Sydney, with a passion for both my sport and the media side of it. My interest in media was ignited when I had the opportunity to be in the media room during the 2021 NSW Open. The atmosphere inside the room was electric, and to be seeing all the staff do their respective jobs was amazing. As a player, it also gave me deeper respect for those who work behind the scenes during events.

Ever since then, I have been doing my own research and trying to gain some experience where I can. This year through 13 Under, I have been given such an incredible opportunity to hone my skills and be able to share some insight into the life of an aspiring professional golfer. I am so excited to share my journey and experience with you all in the upcoming months!

But, aside from my media aspirations, I am also an amateur golfer, with the aspiration to turn professional and play on the LPGA tour. I started playing golf at the age of six, after following my dad to his golf lessons. I honestly don’t remember how my fascination with this sport began, but it seemed like so much fun hitting a golf ball. Ever since then, I have been consistently improving and playing tournaments. I was fortunate enough to have quite a successful junior career, winning events such as the NSW Junior at age fifteen. As years passed and my skillset grew, I transitioned from junior state teams to now being a part of the Golf NSW High Performance team.

I have also been fortunate enough to represent my state and country numerous times. One of my most memorable tournaments was playing the Women’s Amateur- Asia Pacific (WAAP). Along with four other elite female amateurs, we had the opportunity to play in Abu Dhabi representing our country. It will forever be a week that I treasure and look back on.

Although it seems like my journey has been smooth sailing, I can say it is far from it. I’ve gone through a lot of tough times personally and within my sport, which I am always very open to talk about. I take those experiences as challenges that will help me build resilience and become a better person and player. I’m looking forward to sharing a more in-depth insight into some of my struggles and the way I dealt with them, no matter how big or small.

Now that I have taken the time to introduce myself properly to you all, I just wanted to reiterate how thrilled I am to be able to write these blogs and share my story. If you have any questions or stories you would like to share, please feel free to email us!! If you would also like to follow my journey on social media, my Instagram handle is @juneesong
