The best public courses around Sydney for golfers of all levels

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog!

Wow! It’s been more than two years since I wrote my last post for 13 Under. Some of you may be wondering why I have been MIA for so long. As much as I would like to dive into it here, I figured that I would get my thoughts in order and write about it an upcoming post. There has been a lot happening in my life, and I’m sure in yours, too.

For now, I am back in Sydney and wanted to share some great public golf courses in the area that are approachable and fun for golfers of all abilities. So, without further ado, let’s get to it.

The Coast Golf Club

In my opinion, the Coast Golf Club is one of the prettiest golf courses in Sydney. The course itself sits on the top of Little Bay and boasts views of the cliffs and ocean from every hole. Not only is it beautiful to look at, the 18-hole course layout is challenging for golfers at every skill level, especially when the wind blows!

My favourite hole on the golf course is the 4th. The par 3 is guarded by rocks short of the green and to the left of it. From the white tees, it is both a stunning and visually daunting hole, especially when the wind is up. When you play, make sure to take a photo when you get to the green.

Golf bookings can be made on the golf club’s website . Timesheets open a week in advance, so make sure to plan ahead. Social play ranges from $50 to $65 depending on what time you play. As it is a public golf club, the dress code is a bit more relaxed but make sure to check the website (if you are wearing 13 Under, you’ll be fine😊).

Shelly Beach Golf Club

Shelly Beach Golf Club is one of my favourite Central Coast golf courses to play. It is about an hour’s drive from Sydney and is located right next to the beautiful Shelly Beach. Growing up, I played so many tournaments at this golf course, and now as an elite amateur I keep coming back. It is truly a golf course that I believe is underrated.

The course’s layout has a mixture of open fairways with ocean views and tree-lined holes that make you think your way around. The 6th hole is the highlight, as the beach follows the length of the hole. Make sure to take a video when you tee off; the views are going to be something that you’ll want to remember.

Make sure to call the pro shop to make a booking. Social play is welcome seven days a week.

A few 9-hole courses to consider

For the golfers who may find an 18-hole course a little intimidating, here are a few 9-hole golf courses that are fun to play and will save you a little time.

Castle Cove Golf Club is located less than 5km away from Chatswood and is a great little course to play. The course has undulations and small greens that will test your golf skills. Social play times are listed on the website, but make sure to also give the pro shop a call.

Avalon Golf Club is another great 9-hole golf club situated just five minutes away from the Avalon town centre. The golf course proves to be a serious test with tight, tree-lined fairways. Social play is welcome every day of the week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contact the golf club to book your round.

Cammeray Golf Club is a 9-hole par 3 course located in North Sydney. Hole lengths range from 90m-160m, allowing you to work on all aspects of your game. The golf course welcomes golfers of all skill levels and social play is available every day. Bookings can be made through the website.

I hope that you were able to gain some insight into some great golf courses to play both in and around Sydney. As always, thank you for reading and I’ll see you next time!
