A day in the life

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog!

This week I wanted to share a day in my life as a golfer striving to go pro. My day is normally broken down into four parts: fitness, study, golf and self-care. I start planning my days the week before to allow me to use my time effectively. Since I have a lot of different things going on, it is crucial for me to stay on top of things. One thing that I have learned from successful athletes is that being organized is critical.

With all these different things in my life, I wanted to show you how I balance things and give you some tips for staying organized. Whether you’re an athlete or pursuing your own professional career, staying organized is key in becoming successful.

So, without further ado, let’s get to it!

FITNESS

During a typical day, I like to either go to the gym or go to a Pilates class. As a golfer preparing for tournaments I need to stay on top of my fitness. Doing one workout a day helps me to hit my fitness goals. It has only been a few weeks since I started going to Pilates classes and I think they have helped me a lot with my balance and core strength, which is important for golfers. If I go to the gym, I typically do a strength session to build power and maintain my fitness.

STUDYING/BLOGGING/EDITING

I spend anywhere from 2 to 5 hours a day doing administrative tasks. As I am in my final semester of college, I have classes, assignments and meetings. In addition, I write for this blog, and film and post content for my personal instagram page. To stay on top of everything, I use the reminders and calendar app on my phone every day to keep track of things that I need to complete and cross them off as I finish them. Although I like doing all these things, sometimes it can be difficult for me to prioritize and handle all these tasks. This makes organization extremely important in my day to day life, as I’m sure it is in yours.

GOLF

My golf practice looks different each day. I like making sure that I practice all aspects of my game, whether that is doing drills on the practice facility or playing holes out on the golf course. With golf, I don’t like restricting myself with time, unless I have other commitments. I normally practice each part of my game until I achieve either a goal that I set for myself, or I feel good.

I have my own “playbook” where I compiled some drills that were effective for my game, or some I found during a lesson. For example, with putting, I like using a putting mat to be able to monitor my stroke. Documenting these things is important as it gives me a place to go when I am struggling to think of a drill, or I am trying to remember what I learned in a lesson. If you are looking to improve your game, I think it is important to write down what you learn in order to keep track of your progress.

SELF-CARE

One of the most important parts of my day is self-care. I don’t take enough time for myself – and you may not, either. I realized this year that this is a crucial part of building a successful career. I tend to push myself and be overly critical, so taking some time to decompress is important for me to reset and be refreshed for the next day. Whether watching an episode of my favourite show, going on a walk with my dog or treating myself to some ice cream, I try to make sure that I make time for myself. You should, too!

That’s all for this week. As always, thank you for reading and I’ll see you next week.
